Static hosting
Turn a folder into a website.
What makes a website static?
A static website serves files such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and images. The browser displays those files and can run JavaScript locally. This guide does not need a database or a backend application.
Three pieces that work together
- HTML gives each page its content and structure.
- CSS controls the layout, colors and typography.
- JavaScript adds interactions, like the checklist below.
Keep the folder structure
The homepage is index.html. It links to guides/index.html, which links to this page at guides/hosting/index.html. Uploading the full structure keeps the links and shared assets working.
