Networking basics
Understand the connections.
Addresses and names
A URL tells your browser where to request a resource. It includes a scheme, a host and often a path, such as the path to a nested HTML page.
HTTP and HTTPS
HTTP is a protocol used to request website resources. HTTPS protects that exchange with encryption. The address bar shows which scheme a website uses.
Allow the connections you need
On a virtual server, firewall rules control incoming traffic. SSH typically uses TCP port 22, HTTP uses port 80 and HTTPS uses port 443. Access rules should match the service and intended users.
